Blessings for children are found in all religious traditions. The act of embracing a new life as part of the community began in ancient times when people believed that a child was a gift from the Gods and there was no concept of exactly how the gift was bestowed. In modern times, we know how the tiny new life began, but the miracle of birth is still cause for celebration in the family and in the community. Blessing ceremonies take on different forms depending on the faith of the parents, but they all have one thing in common, love and good wishes for the child.
